Oil & Gas Decommissioning
Protecting Australia’s Waterways
Decommissioning works in Australian waters demand rigorous environmental compliance. ARI provides proven filtration solutions for offshore and onshore operations.
The Wash Bay Device
The Wash Bay Device (WBD) is your first line of defense against physical waste entering your drain and contaminating your filtration system.
Vehicle Wash Bays, automatic car washes and other industrial type wash bays are connected to either stormwater or wastewater infrastructure. If connected to stormwater this is flowing directly into the receiving environments with all toxicity, if it is connected to wastewater, it is simply discharged into the wastewater system where it is discharged without treatment to the ocean. ARI disrupts that process making our customers the most environmentally friendly protecting our oxygen supply and water future.
The WBD is easy to service with high hydrocarbon applications where we use the ARI pillows to absorb shock hydrocarbon load.
The Industry
Transforming Oil & Gas Decommissioning
The Australian Oil and Gas industry has commenced the decommissioning of USD $40 billion of Oil and Gas assets in Australian waters over the next 15 years.
NOPSEMA is overseeing those operations. The Centre of Decommissioning Australia (CODA) is bringing together key stakeholders in government and industry to enable a world-class decommissioning sector.
A wide range of Australian and overseas companies are pushing the boundaries of innovation to protect the ocean whilst recycling 95% of all equipment recovered.
ARI Water Solutions, a CODA partner, offers filtration technology that protects the environment from the physical waste created during decommissioning works both on land and subsea.
Our Capability
A Vision for Decommissioning
ARI Technology means we can now:
At-Source Stormwater Filtration
Protect runoff from land based decommissioning works with ‘at source’ stormwater filtration.
NORMS Radioactive Scale
Recover flexible flowlines with NORMS radioactive scale captured at one end of the pipe as recovery occurs.
Subsea Pipeline Recovery
Filter contaminated debris that can dislodge during recovery and migrate towards the end of subsea pipelines.
False Floor Filtration
Deploy ‘false floor filtration’ fitted to containers during sea bed recovery works.
ARI utilizes world-first ‘high flow to fine particle capture filtration’ technology to ensure global Oil and Gas Decommissioning works have a minimal impact on the ocean.
The Technology
ARI HFPF Material
High Flow Poly Filter has been proven to process over 3,000 litres per minute per square metre, capturing particulates down to 63µm (micron).
Land Based Operations
Land based works expose water environments to runoff where decommissioning works are carried out. With climate change effects, rain events are larger and faster, carrying significantly more waste into drains during rainfall.
Stormwater drains around work sites should be fitted with ARI’s Stormwater Filtration Device (SFD) for ‘at source’ treatment. ARI or contracted waste management companies carry out ongoing servicing.
Subsea Recovery
Subsea flexible and rigid flowline to be recovered may need to be disconnected or cut on the sea floor.
ARI’s high flow to fine particle filtration is ideal for recovering equipment from the sea bed. Equipment can now be lifted to the surface without losing accumulated waste whilst allowing seawater to drain.
Significant science and engineering has been carried out by Blakemere and ARI to ensure subsea waste is contained during pipeline recovery operations.
ARI’s HFFPF filtration technology protects the ocean during recovery operations including radioactive scale. A Thesis at Edith Cowan University — a component of a world-first PhD on the base load of radiation in mined minerals — has proven ARI’s capability in the capture of radioactive scale, endorsed by the Minerals Research Institute of Western Australia.

Our Commitment
In Australia, the Oil and Gas Industry is setting new global standards for environmental protection during decommissioning.
ARI Water Solutions is committed to ensuring that our innovative filtration technology plays a pivotal role in this effort — minimizing environmental impact both onshore and offshore.
Our world-first High Flow to Fine Particle Capture technology represents the future of responsible decommissioning — protecting Australia’s waterways and ocean environments for generations to come.
Case Study
Protecting OMSB
Onslow Marine Support Base (OMSB) is one of Western Australia’s most strategically important facilities for offshore energy, logistics, and decommissioning activities.
ARI’s Storm Filtration Devices (SFDs) were deployed across the OMSB facility to capture and filter stormwater before it reaches the marine environment — setting a benchmark for sustainable decommissioning and marine operations in Australia.
